A suncatcher inspired by the kingdom of Gondor, described as the greatest realm of men at the end of the Third Age in The Lord of the Rings. The suncatcher is handmade from beveled glass, which catches the light when placed in sunlight, and a grey stained glass, which I have handpainted with imagery inspired by Gondor. The central motif is inspired by the crown of the King, detailed in silver, with a tree symbolizing the White Tree handmade from wire at the center. Above and below are two roundels made from a white wispy stained glass and inlaid with two more star bevels. The central glass piece is painted and fired to an enamel finish.
I am a huge fan of the books and films, so great care was taken in interpreting this design into stained glass.
“In his time the City was made more fair than it had ever been, even in the days of its first glory; and it was filled with trees and with fountains, and its gates were wrought of mithril and steel, and its streets were paved with white marble..."
