Inspired by the Death's Head Hawk Moth, scientific name Acherontia atropos, this hanging was cut from streaky dark brown stained glass and opaque beige glass, then hand-painted and fired to an enamel finish. Care was taken to replicate the moth's wing patterns as faithfully as possible, including the veining and fuzzy texture of the wings.

The Death's Head Hawk Moth is found in southern Europe and throughout Africa. It is most commonly identified by the skull-shaped pattern on its thorax,

Two discreet copper loops are attached to the top of the wings and then connected by a copper chain for hanging.

Each moth, like those in nature, is completely unique.
